Background facts

On 10 October 1992, in the period between 19:00 and 20:30 hrs, BB and his accomplice AA were present in village Kamičak, municipality Ključ. Dressed in military uniforms and equipped with arms, the two arrived in a red Golf A2 passenger car in front of the home of HD and called him outside. As they received no response, BB and his accomplice fired a short burst into the front door and forcibly entered the house. A while later, the two headed towards the village outskirts. As they passed by the home of JM, they spotted RH on the outer staircase leading into the house. One of the attackers discharged an undetermined number of shots from an automatic weapon of an undetermined make and calibre into RH. Having received severe bone injuries to his head, upper arms and chest, RH died on the spot. AA and his accomplice then left, but shortly afterwards returned to the scene in the same passenger car and entered JM's house, where they found several persons. Determined to take their lives, the attackers fired multiple shots from their automatic weapons into those inside, fatally wounding them in the process. Thus: JM sustained multiple bone fractures in the head, specifically in the areas of the right temple, crown, cheek bones and jaws; HM sustained multiple fractures in the shoulder blade with extensive bone fragmentation; BĐ (y.o.b. 1938) sustained multiple bone fractures in the roof and base of the skull, facial structures and upper jaw with extensive bone fragmentation; and BS (BĐ's minor daughter) received multiple fractures in the areas of the right hipbone and right cheek bone with extensive fragmentation. As a result of their injuries, all of them died on the spot. The massacre caused great fear among the local population and led to a mass exodus from the village.
