Background facts

According to the court's finding, the defendant and another individual - both part of the Serb Police force at the relevant time - took the life of a Croat prisoner of war in the area of Tenja, Croatia on 20 November 1992. The two police officers removed the wounded victim from the local health centre, forced him into a vehicle and a short while later killed him on the road.
