COURT RENDERS FIRST INSTANCE JUDGMENT FOR KALINOVIK CRIME

Upon an indictment issued by Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor, the War Crimes Department - part of the Higher Court in Belgrade rendered its judgment in the case against Dalibor Krstović for a crime committed in August 1992, amidst a noninternational armed conflict that was under way in Bosnia-Herzegovina (BH). At the time soldier of the Republic of Srpska's Army, defendant Krstović and another unidentified member of his unit raped a female person of Bosniak nationality who - alongside a number of other unlawfully detained civilians - was held confined in the Elementary School building in village Kalinovik, BH. The court found the defendant guilty of the criminal offence under article 142 (1) (war crime against civilian population) of the FRY Criminal Act, and sentenced him to 9 (nine) years in prison.
