Serbia marks International Day of the Disappeared

On 30 August 2019, the International Day of the Disappeared was marked in the Belgrade City Assembly.

According to the data provided by the International Red Cross Committee, as many as 10,157 persons who disappeared from the former Yugoslav territory during the 1990s are still reported missing. Out of the total number, around 3,900 missing persons are Serbs. Serbia's competent authorities say that they have done everything in order to account for the missing, whereas reports from the region suggest otherwise.

President of the Government's Commission on Missing Persons Veljko Odalović said that Serbia was strongly committed to the search for the missing, but Belgrade alone could not offer answers to all relevant questions.

Among those attending the commemoration ceremony was Snežana Stanojković, the War Crimes Prosecutor.
