Court passes first instance judgment in Maričić case

Acting upon an indictment raised by the Office of the Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor, the War Crimes Department - part of the Higher Court in Belgrade rendered its first instance judgment in the case against Željko Maričić, former soldier of the Republic of Srpska's Army. The court found defendant Maričić guilty of the criminal offence under article 142 ((1) (war crime against civilian population) of the FRY Criminal Act and sentenced him to 2 (two) years in prison.

Back in May 1992, defendant Maričić was present in the area of Ključ, BH, where he engaged in unlawful arrests and inhumane treatment of local civilians.
