Meeting of War Crimes Prosecutor Snežana Stanojković with United Nations Special Rapporteur Fabian Salvioli

The War Crimes Prosecutor of the Republic of Serbia, Snežana Stanojković, held a meeting with the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the promotion of truth, justice, reparations and non-recurrence, Fabian Salvioli.

The topics of the meeting were related to regional cooperation in the prosecution of war crimes, cooperation with the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, as well as with the state authorities in the Republic of Serbia that also contribute to the investigations and prosecutions carried out by this Office, as well as participating in solving the issue of missing persons.

During the meeting, the Special Rapporteur was introduced to the most important aspects of the work of the Office of the War Crimes Prosecutor, the activities it carries out on a daily basis and the strategic documents it continuously applies in its work, first of all the National Strategy for War Crimes Prosecution 2021-2026 and the accompanying Action Plan.

Mr Salvioli was also informed about the efforts of the Office of the War Crimes Prosecutor to achieve the highest possible level of support and protection for witnesses and victims in war crimes proceedings, and about the steps taken in the previous period with the aim of improving their position in the proceedings. The Special Rapporteur was also acquainted with the view that victims of war crimes are always in the focus of this Office.
